Audio visual installation with 21 televisions and seven video players, solo exhibition kunstraum düsseldorf
Project details
In this installation, sound and image are separated. The image shows the man who has turned away, while all that can be heard is the woman´s voice, referring only to herself. The theme of this work is the abyss separating the sexes. It acquires a hopeful aspect, if one thinks of Orpheus who could have saved his dead, beloved Eurydice from the underworld, if he had done what the Gods instructed: to bring her back from there without looking back at her. In the greeck myth he finally loses Eurydice because he looks back at her. In this installation the man never turns around and the woman never speaks to him. She pursues him so that he cannot walk away and she speaks to herself without addressing him. But they are both still there together – in a fragile state of similar loneliness.
